SONIQLOOX: a magazine built because nobody else would.
An independent music magazine built from the ground up on WordPress, editorial design, artist spotlights, and concert photography that actually gets published.
Independent artists needed a real home.
SONIQLOOX launched with a clear gap to fill: independent artists doing genuinely good work were getting overlooked by the major outlets, and there wasn't an obvious home for the kind of coverage they deserved. Rather than compete for space at publications that weren't interested, the plan was to build a new outlet entirely.
That meant the challenge wasn't just design and development, it was standing up an entire editorial platform from nothing: the publication, the content structure, and the technical foundation to support it, all at once, and all before a single reader had ever seen it.
A real magazine, not a blog with a new coat of paint.
A publication like this needed a real magazine structure: categories and tagging that could organize artist spotlights, interviews, and concert photography into something that felt like editorial content, not a content dump. The layout had to give photography room to breathe and long-form writing room to read, two things most off-the-shelf blog themes handle poorly.
Built on a custom WordPress theme with GeneratePress underneath, the platform was designed to scale with the publication as it grew, adding new formats without needing to rebuild the foundation each time.
Editorial Design System
A layout built to read like a real magazine: clear hierarchy, breathing room, and photography that's actually given room to matter.
Artist Spotlight Format
A consistent template for interviews and features, built so a new spotlight can go up quickly without starting from a blank page each time.
Concert Photography Galleries
A gallery system built for a working photographer's archive, fast to load, easy to update after every show.
Built to Evolve
A foundation flexible enough to support new editorial formats as the publication grows, most recently SONIQFEELS, a first-person response format sitting alongside traditional reviews.
A real home for the artists left out.
SONIQLOOX is now a functioning independent music magazine with a consistent editorial calendar, a growing archive of artist spotlights and concert photography, and a readership that keeps coming back. The platform has kept pace with the publication's growth, supporting new formats and features without needing a rebuild, exactly what it was built to do.
Publications and platforms need the same care as any other build.
If you're building a media brand, a publication, or a platform that needs to grow with you, let's talk about what that foundation should look like.
